Thematic Tips
To successfully write a thematic essay response, one must focus on the task. Each of the task items must be addressed in the written essay response in order to receive full credit.
A generic scoring rubric is provided which explains how the thematic essay response will be graded. The maximum possible score is a five; the lowest possible score is a zero.

To receive a score of 5 in your writing you should show a full understanding in the topic. You address all aspects of the Task. This means that the you must discuss the statement they give you. Shows an ability to analyze and evaluate. Includes comments of an analytically and/or evaluative nature throughout the paper. The response does more than simply state or describe accurate facts. Richly supports the theme with relevant facts, examples, and details. Is a well-developed essay, consistently demonstrating a logical and clear plan of organization.
To receive a score of 3 in your writing it should address all aspect of the task in depth, but it's somewhat uneven. Analyzes it's explanation although the explanation may be more descriptive than analytically. Uses accurate facts, examples and details but doesn't well support it's thesis. Demonstrates a general plan of organization.
Receiving a 2 is t through their writing having some aspect of the task. Having lack of relationship between historic event to thesis. Develops few facts, examples and details that lead to low analysis. Plus, its poorly organized essay, which overall fails to introduce or summarize the thesis.
